County solicits asphalt bids

By

Kingfisher County commissioners approved soliciting bids on three asphalt overlay projects, one in each district, Monday.

The District 1 project will be Lemon Road, east of U.S. 81, District 2 project will be NS 2830 from the Cimarron River Bridge (Ed Harrison Bridge) north to S.H. 51 and the District 3 project will be the Lomega High School Road (NS 2700).

Commissioners approved Kingfisher Fire Chief Tony Stewart’s proposal to purchase digital radios for all eight county fire departments using grant funds with the $750 grant writing fee to be divided between the departments. If the grant receives approval departments will be required to pay 5 percent of the purchase cost of the new radios. Stewart said the new radios would allow all departments to be in contact with each other with reduced interference.

Commissioners also approved the request to add the emergency management office to the grant proposal if that office comes within the grant requirements.

A REAP grant reimbursement of $5,953.11 received approval as did certification of completion of a Rural Water District No. 3 project at a cost of $34,995.09.

Designation of equipment for surplus status received approval for the following: sheriff’s department, computer server and refrigerator; county engineer’s office, a typewriter, and for all three county commissioner districts items which will be sold at the Circuit Engineering District 8 auction later this spring.

Updates to the county handbook as outlined by County Engineer Nik Smith received approval as did the second quarterly Emergency Management Performance grant for the current fiscal year. City-County Emergency Management Director Steve Loftis attended the meeting along with Ryan Deatherage, an emergency management volunteer.

Two access drives in District 3 requested by RK&R Dozer Service, both in the same vicinity about 1.5 miles west and one mile north of Kingfisher received approval as well as pipeline road crossing requests from the following:

• Tetra Technology – 12-inch line four miles east and three miles north of Okarche, District 1.

• Quality Transfer Services – 12-inch line in District 3 six miles south of Loyal.

• Western Land Services – 10-inch gas line eight miles east and one mile north of Kingfisher, 10-inch gas line 10 miles east and three miles north of Kingfisher, and 12-inch water line 10 miles east and three miles north of Kingfisher, all in District 1.

Following the regular agenda, commissioners held an executive session to interview and discuss hiring a secretary for the commissioners’ office succeeding Connie Replogle who is retiring.

The agenda noted that the courthouse would be closed Friday for Good Friday.

County Clerk Jeannie Boevers served as minute clerk. Cody Murray, county pipeline inspector, also attended.
