County tables naming nutrition board member
Kingfisher County commissioners tabled an item on appointing a member to the Wheatheart Nutrition Board Monday.
The board serves an eight-county district in north central Oklahoma and extending into the Panhandle (Beaver and Cimarron Counties).
District 2 Commissioner Ray Alan Shimanek, chairman, who called the nutrition program a valuable one, told fellow members that he served on the board at one time but resigned because of time constraints and the distance to attend board meetings (at Blackwell).
He said the distance and the length ofboard meetings often prevented attending a meeting and returning home in the same day.
Kingfisher County has a Wheatheart Nutrition site at 1605 S. Main in Kingfisher (the Masonic Lodge).
The Wheatheart Nutrition Project manages the senior nutrition program of northwest Oklahoma for Beaver, Cimarron, Dewey, Ellis, Harper, Texas, Woods and Woodward counties.
“The general purpose of the Senior Nutrition Program is to provide comprehensive nutritional services to older persons through programs and services in five main categories: nutrition, health, social engagement, education and access to services, “according to the Oklahoma Title III web site.
Commissioner Jeff Moss (District 1) moved to table the item for additional study and District 3 Commissioner Heath Dobrovolny seconded. Shimanek joined them in making the action unanimous.
The board approved a resolution continuing the use of Circuit Engineering District 8 to provide engineering services for the county and renamed Shimanek to represent it on the CED 8 Board of directors with Moss as first alternate.
County Emergency Management Director Steve Loftis reported a total of 89 active coronavirus cases in the county as of Monday, including 52 in Kingfisher, 14 in Hennessey,14 in Okarche, six in Cashion, two in Dover and one in Omega.
Commissioners also approved requesting bids for a six-month bid list (January through June 2021) for road and bridge materials and commercial roadway work for all county districts. Sealed bids are to be submitted to the office of County Clerk Jeannie Boevers by 4 p.m. Nov. 25 to be opened at the regular commissioner meeting on Nov. 30.
Successful bidders are required to be able to provide a $5,000 performance bond. Bid packets are available from the purchasing agent in the county clerk’s office.
A request for bids also was submitted for the purchase of a 2015 or newer six-wheel-drive diesel road grader with no more than 3525 hours of use for District 1.
Bids will be accepted until 4 p.m. Nov. 25 at the county clerk’s office and will be opened at the regular commissioner meeting on Nov. 30. Bidders must submit a statement of non-collusion to be accepted.
Commissioners accepted Court Clerk Lisa Markus’ monthly management and preservation report and a resolution certifying that no federal funds will be received on the replacement of a county bridge on EW890 over Winter Camp Creek eight miles west of Okarche in District 3. Certification of non-federal financial involvement is a new federal requirement related to construction projects requiring environmental studies, Dobrovolny said.
Ovintiv received approval for a county road pipeline crossing located near the intersection of Starlite Drive and County Road NS 2845 east of U.S. 81 in District 1.
Moss reported Ovintiv plans to drill four horizontal wells in the vicinity.
