CTM awarded preservation grant from historical society

By

The Oklahoma Historical Society announced Tuesday that the Chisholm Trail Museum has been awarded a grant through the new Oklahoma Heritage Preservation Grant Program.

The Chisholm Trail Museum has been awarded $20,000 for a collections storage project that is phase two of a multiphase improvement plan for the museum to modernize its collections area, provide climate control, and meet established best practices.

The staff will create a new, dedicated space for collections storage that will include items such as new shelving, storage materials, storage racks and an area for collections and exhibit preparation.

“We are excited to receive the Oklahoma Heritage Preservation Grant in its inaugural year,” said Jason Harris, director of the Chisholm Trail Museum.

“This grant will allow the museum to complete its ongoing renovations to its collections storage by providing shelving units and collections storage materials to help us meet current best practices for preservation.

“Through this collaborative grant, the museum will be able to continue and expand its mission of collecting, preserving and sharing our past.”

A total of just over $410,000 in grant funds will be distributed, with projects ranging from collections care and exhibit development to strategic planning and educational programming.

“We are very pleased with how well this first cycle of the Oklahoma Heritage Preservation Grant Program has gone,” said Nicole Harvey, grants administrator.

“Both the variety of projects and the number of applications submitted show that this program is not only necessary, but a game changer for the future of collecting, preserving and sharing Oklahoma history in local communities across the state.”

The Oklahoma Heritage Preservation Grant Program is a grants-in-aid program offered by the Oklahoma Historical Society with a goal of encouraging the collection, preservation and sharing of Oklahoma history at the grassroots level in all parts of the state.
