Three local high schools will be represented Saturday when four juniors compete in the 54th annual Kingfisher County Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Kingfisher Heritage Auditorium.

Competing this year are Katon Lunsford and Grace Sinclair of Kingfisher High School, Mackenzie Schneiter of Okarche and Abby Hansen of Lomega.

The theme this year is - fittingly - centered around the disco era of Studio 54.

The competitors will be judged on academic achievement, as well as talent, interview, fitness and poise.

Each participant also will submit and be judged on a Be Your Best Self project proposal to present to younger girls.

Participants also will vote for one member of their group to win the spirit award, which also carries a scholarship prize.

The participant with the most points at the end of the competition will be named Kingfisher County’s Distinguished Young Women winner for 2022 and be eligible to compete for the state title next summer.

Katon Lunsford is the daughter of Kenny and Meggan Lunsford.

She will perform “Amazing Grace” on the piano.

Grace Sinclair, the daughter of Mariah Sinclair, will conduct a science experiment for her talent.

Mackenzie Schneiter is the daughter of Lance and Katie Schneiter. She plans to poi hay Sally from Charlie Brown in a monologue entitled “I Got a C.”

Abby Hansen is the daughter of David and Stephanie Hansen and will sing “Scars to Your Beautiful” for her talent.

The program is open to the public.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and every other row will be blocked off to allow for social distancing.

Contestants are currently selling tickets and tickets will be available at the door.

Kingfisher County Distinguished Young Women is a nonprofit organization run by local volunteers who depend on ticket sales, individual donations and corporate sponsorships to fund scholarship awards.

This year’s competition will award more than $3,000 in cash scholarships.
