Delayed road project starts next Monday
A downtown Kingfisher Oklahoma Department of Transportation paving project expected to start in February will finally get under way next Monday.
North and southbound lanes of South Main Street will be intermittently narrowed between Broadway (S.H. 33) and Sheridan Avenue starting Monday, May 18, through mid-summer, weather permitting.
On-street parking in front of BancFirst and the Kingfisher County Courthouse also will be impacted temporarily, according to an ODOT news release.
Eastbound and westbound lanes of East Broadway (S.H. 33) from Main Street to Second Street also will be narrowed and lanes shifted starting in June.
Work generally will occur from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday with some weekend closures as needed. Motorists are advised to expect delays and congestion in the area during these times and plan extra travel time through the work zone.
Motorists should start planning now to locate an alternate route for an up-toone-month full closure of eastbound and westbound S.H. 33 traffic through the underpass east of Main Street sometime in late summer.
ODOT's eastbound detour for commercial truck and through traffic will be eastbound S.H. 33 to northbound U.S. 81 to eastbound S.H. 51 to southbound S.H. 74 to eastbound S.H. 33.
Westbound travelers may take northbound SH-74 to westbound SH-51 to southbound US-81 to westbound SH-33.
Local drivers can plan alternate routes around the closure.
The $1.3 million project was awarded by the Oklahoma Transportation Commission in June 2019 to Schiralli Construction Corp. of Wilson.
The focus of the project is rehabilitation of the pavement in the first block of North Main Street and between Main Street and Second Street on S.H. 33.
The entire project is expected to be completed by fall 2020.
