DKG Theta Chapter meets in Kingfisher

Theta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, met at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Kingfisher Public Library.

The members gathered at that time to do an activity of “How Does Your Garden Grow.”

Members were given a cut-out colored butterfly, and they had to use dots, stickers and lines to denote whether they were elementary, middle school, high school or other with dots. They used butterflies to denote public or private school or retired, and lines to represent the years in DKG.

Ramona Paine, Enid, served brunch to the membership and special guest was Belinda Clift, Moore, Oklahoma State Organization president.

Paine, president, called the meeting to order at 10 a.m. and words of inspiration were given by Ann Ritchie, Enid.

Joy Rhodes, Fairview, gave the Society Focus on the “Emergency Fund.” This fund is used by the members worldwide to help with any kind of disaster. A collection was taken and funds will be sent to headquarters in Austin.

Those attending the state convention June 7-8 at the Embassy Suites in Oklahoma City were: Karla Eischen, Okarche, served as communication chairman; Jan Stinson, Fay, served on the Scholarship Committee; and Paine, served as bylaw chairman and member of the World Fellowship Committee.

Dana Terrell, Kingfisher, served on the Creative Woman of Oklahoma Committee.

The 2019-2020 essay topic is: “In the Spirit of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and its theme, ‘Transforming the World,’ How Can You Individually Encourage the Acceptance of Others?”

This essay contest is opened to all seventh and eighth graders with essays due by Feb. 1, 2020.

Charlene Heronema, Reydon, is the local chairman and information will be forthcoming to the area schools in which the group has members serving.

A special “thanks” was offered to Phyllis High-tower, Watonga, for doing a scrapbook page for Sandy Pendergraft, 2017-2019 state president for her state scrapbook.

Belinda Clift, state president, with her theme “Changing the Tide, Honoring our Heritage….Charting our course….Sailing toward our future” talked about her theme and what she hopes to accomplish this biennium.

The members participated in the Founder’s Day program “Calendar Girls… The First Jewels of Our Society.” Members learned something about the 12 founders of DKG.

Members brought items for their chapter project, the Compassion Clinic, Kingfisher, which consisted of books, coloring books, puzzle books, etc.

Members present were: Trinna Caldwell and Phyllis Hightower, Watonga; Paine and Ann Ritchie, Enid; Rhodes, Fairview; Terrell, Kingfisher; Stinson, Fay; Karla Eischen, Okarche, and guest Belinda Clift.
