Donor contributes biggest gift yet for Playground of Dreams
There has been an outpouring of support in recent weeks for the Wheat-belt Ambucs of Kingfisher County’s Playground of Dreams.
The local group for a number of years has been trying to raise funds to purchase the equipment for the all-inclusive playground that would be constructed at Kingfisher Park.
The efforts were slow at times and stalled at others, but renewed efforts have Ambucs members within grasp of their goal of $275,000, which would then be matched by the City of Kingfisher and allow the project to move forward.
The goal just became much more attainable with the biggest gift to date: $50,000 from an anonymous donor.
With the city’s match, it instantly becomes a $100,000 surge toward Ambucs’ goal.
Ryen Grace Martin “We were blown away, Scammahorn, a longtime beyond ecstatic,” said Erin Ambucs member. “There aren’t words we could come up with to tell you how appreciative we are for this generous and gracious person.
“We just couldn’t be more thankful.”
Although anonymous, the donor does have a purpose.
The donor has a 16-month-old great-granddaughter, Ryen Grace Martin, who lives in Fox and was born with Down syndrome.
“When her great-granddaughter comes to visit, she wants her to have a place to play for years and years to come,” Scammahorn said.
The donor and Scammahorn are also hopeful this gift encourages others.
“She wants others to see they can donate and not be recognized themselves, but for someone else they love or who would benefit from the park,” Scammahorn said. “Someone just like Ryen.”
