Dover class makes backpacks for others

By

The Operation Christmas Child Sewing Ministry was started in 2014 by a few Kingfisher County women who had the desire to sew gifts of love for the children in third world countries.

This year, teacher Jenie Melton of Dover decided that this would be a worthwhile project for her seventh grade Life Skills class to incorporate.

She asked Denise Boots to help teach the class how to use a sewing machine, sewing skills, and how to complete a backpack project.

“I could tell how much they cared about these less fortunate children in other countries by their determination to do their best,” Boots said.

Backpacks from Kingfisher County have gone to the Ukraine, Panama, Ecuador, Madagascar, Honduras, Mexico and other countries.

These backpacks will be packed in boxes and shipped to Dallas to be sorted and distributed.

“I can’t wait to see where these precious gifts from the Dover students will end up,” Melton said. “I appreciated the participation of these special Dover students.”

Operation Christmas Child is a Ministry of Franklin Graham and The Samaritan Purse.
