Driver killed in head-on 2-car crash
A Crescent woman was killed Jan.19 in a head-on traffic collision on S.H. 33 west of Guthrie, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol Report.
Barbara Heflin, 79, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 10:32 a.m. two-vehicle crash at S.H. 33 and Pennsylvania Avenue, aboutfive miles west of Guthrie, by the state medical examiner’s office.
Heflin was driving east on S.H. 33 in a 2015 Chevrolet Impala, when her vehide was struck head-on by a westbound 2020 Ford F-250 pickup truck driven by Mark Gellenbeck, 32, of Guthrie.
Gellenbeck refused treatment at the scene, according to the OHP report.
Gellenbeck reportedly drove left of center while reaching for something in the passenger seat of his truck.
The accident is being investigated by the OHP Homicide Unit.
The Logan County Sheriff’s Office, Guthrie Fire Department and Oklahoma Department of Transportation crew members all provided assistance at the scene.
