Embezzlement charge filed; warrant issued
A warrant was still outstanding at press time Friday for a Kingfisher woman charged with allegedly embezzling more than $11,000 from a local church.
Ola Lynn Turner, 59, 406 S. 11th St., Kingfisher, was charged April 1 for allegedly appropriating $11,474.50 from Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Kingfisher.
According to a Kingfisher Police Department affidavit, Turner was a member of the church and had signatory authority on the church’s bank account.
She is alleged to have used the church’s debit card to make unauthorized cash withdrawals over the course of two years, according to the affidavit.
Turner allegedly admitted the embezzlement to the church leadership and signed an agreement to repay the money, with the caveat that the alleged crime would be reported to the police if she failed to make agreed payments, according to the affidavit.
Turner allegedly said the thefts were motivated by a gambling problem. A number of the ATM withdrawals occurred at Lucky Star Casino, according to the affidavit.
