EPIC student Sanders inducted into NHS during May ceremony

By

EPIC Charter School has announced 438 EPIC students from across the state will be inducted into the National Honor Society (NHS) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS).

Among those inducted into the NHS was Emily Sanders of Kingfisher.

The awards were presented in a formal ceremony at Rose State College in Midwest City May 7 and another is planned May 14 at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa.

“We are so proud of these EPIC students who have earned this prestigious honor by committing themselves to the highest levels of academic, social, civic and ethical achievement,” said EPIC Assistant Superintendent of Instruction Bart Banfield.

The NHS was founded in 1921, while NJHS was founded in 1929.

Both organizations place scholarship, service, leadership, character and citizenship at the center of their core values. It is estimated that approximately 1 million students take part in Honor Society activities.

NHS and NJHS are located in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, other U.S. territories and Canada.

Each EPIC NHS inductee receives a certificate, a membership pin and the right to wear the traditional white NHS hood as part of their graduation ceremony regalia.

EPIC educator and National Honor Society Adviser Beth Powell said the hard work EPIC students have put in to become inductees will almost certainly pay huge dividends when it comes to planning for the future.

“NHS and NJHS members get access to college admission and financial aid planning, access to service projects, scholarship potential and leadership development,” Powell said. “So earning membership into these organizations is about more than just being on an honor roll. It’s about preparing for future success.”
