Gathering items to send to the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System was the project that the Hennessey Farmerettes completed on Oct. 9 when the group met at the United Methodist Church.

Over 300 items, ranging from toothbrushes, cards, puzzle books, pillows and socks, were collected to be sent.

Cheryl McClendon hosted the members.

Before the meeting started, the members prepared 20 take-home craft kits of pipe cleaner spiders for the Hennessey Library to pass out.

The lesson was on artisan breads and was led by Paula Nicholson.

The members tried a piece of hot, crusty bread like the artisan breads are noted.

The roll call was answered by “Have you made or eaten an artisan bread?”

Many members noted they had not.

Pansy Wheeler presided over the meeting of 10 members.

Nicholson led the flag salute and Mary Curry gave a devotional “Heaven Declares the Glory of God.”

Jamie Akenhead, treasurer, gave her report.

The members filled out the volunteer hour sheet for the county office. The group also voted on the lessons for 2026 and read over the proposed bylaw changes for the Kingfisher County OHCE that will be voted on at County Council later this month.

Several members volunteered to help with the County Reality Check project on Oct 22-23.

The group also discussed plans for its December outing to Enid to eat and see the lights.

Members were reminded that dues were due that day and the election of officers will be next month.

Kathy Patocka will be the lesson leader. Wheeler will be the hostess at the First Christian Church youth rooms.

Members finished with a comical story about “wakes” and being “saved by the bell.”
