Farmerettes hold August meeting
Hennessey Farmerettes met Aug. 8 at the home of Kathy Patocka.
Attending and answering roll call with “Do you ever use your appliances for something other than what they were intended for?” were Billie Melendy, Mary Curry, Lily Rourke, Dot Miller, Jamie Akenhead, Maxine Helgeson, Margie McConnell and hostess and lesson leader Kathy Patocka.
Melendy, president, opened the meeting by leading the pledge of allegiance. She read the inspirational article “Just a Little Boy” and Akenhead gave the treasurer’s report.
The minutes of the July meeting were read by Mc-Connell, the secretary, and they were approved as read.
Melendy gave notice of upcoming meetings including the monthly cooking workshop on Sept. 10, an exercise class on Sept. 12 and a one-hour “eat right” class at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 5 at the Kingfisher County Extension office.
Curry told of going with Jean Stribel to the Kingfisher County 4-H banquet in Kingfisher where several awards were given Hennessey members.
Rourke gave an update on a previous gift intent the group had discussed to aid nursing home residents and the club made a motion to donate $25 to the entertainment director to help with their needs.
Members expressed their joy in having McConnell back after illness and Miller back after her husband’s recent illness and recovery.
Patocka gave the lesson on “I didn’t know my slow cooker could do that” and provided literature giving ideas on using appliances for alternative purposes.
As an example: using a slow cooker for dyeing small clothing items.
Rourke moved to adjourn and Miller seconded.
Patocka served the group lemon lasagna, tea, water, candy and nuts and the group visited.
Miller brought apples she raised for the group. Miller also won the quarter drill.
The next Farmerettes meeting is with Akenhead.
