Farmerettes meet, elect new officers
The Hennessey Farmerettes met Nov. 13 at the First Christian Church with 10 members present.
Prior to the meeting, members decorated cards and wrote thank-you messages to be presented to veterans in appreciation for their services.
President Pansy Wheeler opened the meeting and led the reading of the Oklahoma Home and Community Education (OHCE) creed.
A devotion was presented by Mary Curry, chaplain.
Members answered roll call by sharing if they have any written family stories and if they had personally written any family stories.
The October meeting minutes, recorded by Wheeler, were read by Secretary Margie McConnell and approved.
Treasurer Jamie Akenhead provided a positive report, which was also approved.
Volunteer forms were distributed for members to record their time and finances donated to help others in times of their needs or wants.
It was reported that Cheryl McClendon and Maxine Helgeson were having health issues and “thinking of you” cards were signed by members to be sent to them.
Lily Rourke gave a report on the recent OHCE Fall District Council meeting. Seven members of the Farmerettes club attended the meeting.
Paula Nicholson provided a report about the craft items assembled by members at the previous meeting which she delivered for children at the Hennessey library.
Members will meet at the First Christian Church on Dec. 11 for their December meeting and take a bus trip to view Christmas decorations in Enid. Members are also requested to bring gifts for a gift exchange.
Wheeler reviewed suggestions provided at County Council for the next year’s lessons.
Members signed up to volunteer for the months they would serve as lesson leader and/or hostess.
The following were elected as officers for the upcoming year: president - Nicholson; vice president - Wheeler; secretary - McConnell; and treasurer - Marge Patocka.
Wheeler read portions of the recent OHCE newsletter and reminded members that volunteer sheets are due in the OHCE office by Jan. 5.
A motion was made and passed to donate $100 to the Angel Tree to purchase Christmas gifts for Hennessey children.
Kathy Patocka gave an interesting lesson about sharing family history and several members also discussed information about their family history.
Members were informed about a possible disposal waste location being considered near Hennessey and several members planned to attend the town trustees meeting.
The lesson leader for January’s meeting will be Nicholson and Akenhead will serve as hostess.
The meeting was adjourned and members were served refreshments by Wheeler, who was the hostess.
