Friday storm brings wind, rain to county
Portions of Kingfisher County received substantial showers early Friday morning along with high wind.
Rain amounts ranged from 1.25 inches at the Twila Adams residence east of Kingfisher to just a few puddles at the Jeremy Ingle residence northeast of Dover.
Kingfisher received .6 inch at the National Weather Service site managed by Steve Loftis and .59 inch at the Mesonet site on the Mueggenborg farm west of Kingfisher.
Rainfall amounts reported from other areas in the county included:
Cashion – little over one inch at Cashion Grain and Feed Elevator.
Dover – .7 inch at the Rick Johnston residence northwest of Dover and only a sprinkle and high wind at the Ingle residence, northeast of Dover.
Hennessey – .8 inch at the CHS Elevator.
Loyal – .7 inch at the Jon Cochran Sr. residence.
Okarche – Not quite one-half inch at the CHS Elevator.
Omega – .5 inch at the Wheeler Brothers Elevator.
Ripening area wheat mostly benefited from the showers, observers believe, especially late maturing varieties that are still setting berries.
Little wind damage was observed on local fields although limbs and leaves were torn from some trees.
The rain is expected to push all small grain fields toward the start of harvest, which is expected in the first week of June.
Other significant rain amounts recorded on Mesonet sites included .43 inch at Watonga, 1.13 inches at El Reno, .96 inch at Guthrie, .78 inch at Marshall, .89 inch at Minco, 1.14 inches at Seiling, 1.07 inches at Woodward, 1.12 inches at Slapout and .71 inch at Hooker (both in the Panhandle), .96 inch at Chickasha, 1.14 inches at Fairview, and 1.41 inches at Alva.
