Gibson wins top parli pro honor during national FFA competition

Both of Kingfisher FFA’s leadership development events (LDE) teams proved to be among the best in the country.

Winners of the National FFA parliamentary procedure and conduct of chapter meetings LDE’s were announced last Friday.

In both, Kingfisher was among the 12 Gold Emblem teams to be honored.

In parliamentary procedure, California was named the national champion, followed by Nebraska, Ohio and Missouri.

After that came the 12 Gold Emblem teams. Another 14 were named Silver Emblem teams and 11 more Bronze Emblem teams.

Although Kingfisher didn’t win the top team prize, one of its members did earn a national honor.

KHS junior Mayce Gibson earned the “Best Chair Award.”

The honor signifies Gibson being the best chairman at the national competition.

Other team members included Leyla Avila, Alli Themer, Katon Lunsford, Dustyn McLean and Ivy Hartman.

The National FFA Parliamentary Procedure LDE tests students’ ability to effectively communicate ideas during a meeting.

Components included a general knowledge exam of parliamentary law, a 10 minute demonstration of parliamentary procedure, oral questions, written minutes of the demonstration as well as a team problem solving activity.

In conduct of chapter meetings, Missouri was crowned national champion.

Florida was second, Ohio third and Texas fourth.

Kingfisher was among the dozen Gold Emblem teams.

Thirteen each were named Silver Emblem and Bronze Emblem teams.

Kingfisher’s team was comprised of Natalie Garrett, Mia Hartman, Kylie Hood, Chloe Blair, Laney Rose, Hannah Francis and Ashley Casillas.

Participants of the conduct of chapter meetings LDE are seventh, eighth and ninth graders who conduct an orderly and efficient chapter meeting using parliamentary procedures. Members also answer questions based upon the team presentation of parliamentary procedure and complete a written exam.

The events were held in conjunction with the 94th National FFA Convention & Expo in Indianapolis, Ind.
