Christmas may be a lot leaner for many area families after Halliburton Energy Services closed its El Reno yard and offi ces and cut about 800 jobs on Monday.

The El Reno location was the home of the company’s remote operations command center, which monitored well completions across the Mid-Continent region of Oklahoma and parts of Texas, Kansas and Colorado.

The closure and layoffs are the most signifi cant sign so far of the downturn in the oil and gas industry and the economic impact of the state’s declining number of operating rigs.
