Health department offering free series of Tai Chi sessions

Kingfisher County Health Department is hosting a free, six-week program teaching Tai Chi, a martial art designed to provide a number of health benefi ts.

Tai Chi: Moving for Better Balance will be taught twice a week beginning Monday, Jan. 6, 2020, at the Wheatheart Nutrition Building.

Classes will be each Monday and Wednesday from 10-11 a.m.

Tracie Verkler, a health educator for Kingfisher and Logan county health departments, will instruct the classes.

Verkler recently highlighted John Riedlinger and Jeanne Mackey, who participated in a recent six-week course of Tai Chi.

“These participants met twice a week for an hour and practiced eight forms of Tai-Chi,” Verkler said. “At the end of the six-week classes, the participants reported having performed Tai-Chi forms at home and increased awareness of precise movements when walking.”

With continued practice, Tai-Chi: Moving for Better Balance is designed to improve the strength, balance, and physical health by strengthening bones and muscles, and much more, Verkler said.

For more information, contact Verkler via phone at 405-375-3008 or email at traciev@health.ok.gov.
