The Town of Hennessey will soon be accepting applications for the director of the Hennessey Community Center (formerly the Senior Citizen Center).

That job will now include being the cook in addition to day-to-day financial and other management duties.

That’s what Teresa (Thomas) Dillon told members of the Golden Eagles at their regular first-Tuesday -of-the-month meeting at the center.

The town owns the center and pays for utilities and upkeep on the building, Dillon told the group.

She said Town Hall Offi ce Manager Shelley Burch is the contact person (405853-2416) and in charge of booking rentals on that property, Center and Noon Meals are Open to All Ages It was stressed that the center (open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday-Friday) and the noon meal program are open to citizens of all ages, not just senior citizens.

Dillon also said an average of only nine people were delivered, or served, lunchtime meals at the center during September.

She added that Barbara Roberts has continued to be the unpaid delivery person.

Members were then given a flyer encouraging more people to use the town’s lunch program for “eat in, take out and home delivery service.”

The lunch cost is $8 per person and includes an entree, sides, dessert and a beverage.

To schedule a take-out or delivery, the center number is 405-853-6726. Calling before 9 a.m. for service that day is recommended.

Dillon said the center’s board had not been active and also encouraged volunteers to serve on a new board for the facility.

Walking/Exercise at Center Dillon, a1977 Hennessey High School graduate, moved back to Hennessey about three years ago.

During that time she has participated in previous exercise classes at the center. She said the instructor recently told her she’d applied for another grant that would allow her to work there again.

Meanwhile, Dillon also goes to the center to walk for exercise because “there is plenty of room here, the floor is flat and it’s easy to walk on and it’s inside and has facilities.”

Golden Eagles’ OSU Trip President Shirley Koons told the group that everything was finalized for the trip to tour the “Able Tech Home” on the Oklahoma State University campus in Stillwater.

That’s where members will be able to “see, touch and try Assistive Technology devices.”

The bus trip is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 15.

As usual, Jimmy Berkenbile will be the driver, said the president. The group will leave at 9 a.m. for its 10:30 a.m. tour, she said.

They plan to eat lunch and there was also some discussion about a nearby antique shop.
