After more than an hour in closed session Monday night, the Hennessey Board of Education voted to rehire the district’s principals.

Approved were high and mid-high principal Angela Avila; elementary school principal Barry Crosswhite, and early-childhood principal Stacey Schovanec.

None of the principals attended the regular meeting, but Matt Means, midschool assistant principal/counselor and coach, was present during the open meeting.

He is a 1998 HHS graduate.

Avila is in her fourth year as principal and in her second year as both the middle and high school’s top administrator.

Crosswhite, a 1987 HHS graduate, is in his seventh year as principal.

Schovanec, a 1988 HHS graduate, is in her sixth year in Hennessey and her second year as the early childhood principal.

She was the middle school principal for the previous four years.

In other personnel matters, Superintendent Dr. Mike Woods told the board that kindergarten teacher Allison McCabe submitted her resignation effective at the end of the school year.

Woods was rehired last month for another year.

The board will discuss hiring teachers at its Monday, March 2, meeting.

That’s a date change from their regular second Monday of the month meeting date.

Board members also scheduled a special meeting for noon Tuesday, March 3, for the sale of $1.75 million taxable building bonds.

That meeting will be in the administration building.

All members of the board were present for the Feb. 10 meeting: President Patrick Griffin, Vice President James Matthew Matousek, Clerk Luke Lough, Joe Garrison and Cristopher Choate.
