FOUR RESIGNATIONS

Superintendent Dr. Mike Woods told the board during his report that he’d accepted these resignations: Macy Winters, first grade teacher; Sheena Compton, high school family and consumer science teacher; Aaron Compton, mid-school science teacher/football coach, and John Utech, technical support coordinator.

DOME & OTHER SEATING

There had been questions at earlier meetings about the seats at the dome and Woods told the board last week seats will be 21 inches wide and there will be 33 inches between each seat.

Griffin said there had been some low seating at some gyms and asked about the height the seats would be. Woods said he didn’t know, but will check.

Woods said the bathrooms at the football field are being updated to include lighting so that when the concession stand is closed after the third quarter that the lights don’t go off in the bathrooms.

From the audience, teacher Marie Parrish asked if the bathrooms would be ADA compliant.

Woods said they would at the dome and there would be an elevator also. He said he thought the solid concrete bathrooms at the football field are compliant.

There were comments from the audience that the entry ways in the football field bathrooms are accessible.

“The stalls are not really acceptable,” said Tommy Parrish from the audience who was in a wheelchair. “I’m not complaining… But I can stand up now... You can’t get a wheelchair in there and close the door. There isn’t enough room.”

His wife, Marie, said it is “especially (important) for students who are wheelchair bound.”

Woods said he would see if they could make the stalls wider.

Lark Joyce, from the audience, also asked if they could make the toilet paper containers higher for women to easily reach. Other women in the audience agreed.

Woods said they had also installed heating in the football field bathrooms.

Jamie Goff said she’d prefer air-conditioning. Others agreed.

Woods said they had to put in heat due to freezing in the winter and he didn’t think air-conditioning was an option in that building.

FINANCES & MORE

Woods reported that, thanks to Jech, they will get 1.75 percent in an account which will add about $7,000 a month more in the building fund.

His written financial shows ad valorem taxes paid as of Feb. 28 is $1.820 million compared to last year’s $1.292 million, an increase of $527,889.

So far gross production returned to the school continues to be up over last year: $2.310 million this year and $1.386 million last year, an increase of $923,593.

The board had a special meeting scheduled at the administration office for noon Friday, March 15, to receive bids for the $1.475 million in taxable building bonds.
