Hennessey choral students to perform at state meeting of Mothers Clubs next month in Norman
Shelia Craun, president of the state Association of Mothers Clubs, has invited the Hennessey Public School mixed choir and honor choir to entertain at the organization’s annual convention April 9-10 at the Embassy Suites in Norman.
Craun, a member of the Hennessey Child Study Club, said Beth Berkenbile, HHS choral music teacher, will direct the students.
Other Hennessey state officers are Teresa Fletcher, secretary, and Charlene Choate, parliamentarian, members of the Hennessey Child Study Club; and Kim Fehring-Gritz, treasurer of the Hennessey Mother’s Club.
Craun said the state group did not meet last year due to the global coronavirus pandemic.
She will continue on the 2021-22 state board as parliamentarian and both Fletcher and Choate have completed all of the offices.
Fehring-Gritz is resigning as an officer, Craun said.
Other communities whose clubs are members of the state group are Ponca City, Purcell, Lexington, Okeene, Fairview, Canton, and Goldsby.
The state group was founded in 1938 and the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation is its project.
Craun said the group is also one of the longest continual donors in the history of OMRF, and has donated more than $140,000.
“Each of our clubs have numerous local fundraisers,” she said. “They vary from benefit dinners and auctions for families in need, donations for trick or treat and Easter egg hunts, blood drives, after prom activities, care packages for military deployments, teacher luncheons, senior scholarships, food banks, nursing homes, adopt families at Christmas, school supplies, senior citizens centers, libraries and sponsor girls to Girls State.
“Basically if there is a need in one of our communities they know to ask the mothers clubs and they will lend a helping hand.”
