Hennessey Cruise Main is downtown Saturday night
Matthew Smith’s wrapped 2019 Camaro will be one of many in the “Hennessey Cruise Main” event at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 16, because he’s the event planner.
Cruisers will meet at 5:45 p.m. at the swimming pool/splash park on Mitchell Road across from the school, said Smith. Then they’ll cruise by the Hennessey Nursing Home and Rehab Center on Third Street and go west to Main St. at 6 p.m.
Spectators are asked to park on side streets, he said.
That way cruise vehicles can park on Main Street and in the InterBank parking so everyone can see the cars later.
Smith, a 2017 HHS grad, said there will be a radio station set up at Town Hall and First to Cherokee streets will be blocked off for more cruise cars.
He said there will be food available and it should be a good evening to watch the cruise, then walk around and look at the vehicles.
Anyone who wants to show off their custom car, hot rod, street race car, antique car, motorcycle “or anything you have that rolls” may participate. No burnouts or street racing are allowed.
Both his dad and stepdad used to race and Smith said that’s what got him into cars as a teenager. His parents are Claire and Mark Smith and Melissa and Logan Macy.
Smith, who works for ONG, said he used to race “dirt cars” but now likes to cruise in his Camaro.
He has wanted to do a cruise event in Hennessey for awhile, but he didn’t want to interfere with Kingfisher’s cruise earlier.
“Then there was Mother’s Day last weekend” and he didn’t want to spoil that for moms, so the Hennessey cruise is this Saturday.
“This will be like they used to do years ago,” he said, referring to what older generations termed “dragging Main.”
