Hennessey United members vote to cancel festival, leadership class
The result of Thursday votes in a group text with Hennessey United board members means that its 10th annual Wine & Chocolate Festival this September is cancelled due to COVID-19.
Wes Hardin, chairman of the festival, said he is disappointed, as is the United board, but plan to resume their outdoor festival next year.
The civic group’s third annual Leadership Hennessey program for high school seniors is canceled for the first semester. The Leadership team will determine later this year if a second semester session is possible.
The Leadership team and its partners, Enel Green Power Energy (Red Dirt Wind Farm), expressed regret about the decision, but said they believe it’s in the best interest of students, speakers and the school.
The board also decided not to have its usual third Thursday meeting this month.
Members of the civic group’s board are President Stacy Cline, Vice President Teresa Oliver, Treasurer Tammy Henderson, Secretary Cathy Howard, Scottie Hajek, Dagan Hardin, Wes Hardin, Kaden Mitchell, Mariana Gonzalez and Barb Walter.
