HHS graduation will be inside new event center

By

Graduation is on for 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, in The Eagle Event Center for 59 Hennessey High School graduates and up to four of their family members.

Some of the graduates leave the next day for the military, Superintendent Dr. Mike Woods said. “This is the latest date

“This is the latest date we could have it so they could be included,” he said. Woods added that every

Woods added that everyone attending will be asked to take safety measures due to COVID-19.

“We request that everyone wear masks and practice safe distancing,” he said at Monday night’s school board meeting before the members gave their approval. “That means all students and all parents.

“We feel having it in the Eagle Event Center is as safe as being outside. It’s 180 feet wide by 60 feet.”

Everyone will have their temperature taken at one of the six entrances into the facility, said HHS Principal Angela Avila. Everyone will also be asked to sign a waiver before they enter, she said.

All seating will be on the gym floor (which will be covered in flooring) and in chairs set up in groups of five (the graduate and their four guests) with safe distance between each group of five, Woods said.

Students will go up on a stage where the superintendent will stand next to the table of diplomas, he said.

Seniors may take off their mask only for photos when they get their diplomas.

The ceremony will be live-streamed on both large screens in the facility.

“There will be four speakers and the microphone will be cleaned between each speaker,” Avila said.

Since there will not be a baccalaureate the seniors will be able to give their mothers a rose as is usual during that ceremony, she said.

After seniors leave “The Dome,” they are asked not to take group photos with their friends, Avila said.
