HHS LEADERSHIP CLASS VISITS COUNTY COURTHOUSE

By

Kingfisher County Associate District Judge Lance Schneiter is surrounded in his courtroom by Hennessey High School Leadership Class seniors Wednesday morning. Students were randomly chosen to play parts in a mock courtroom drama prepared by the judge based on Star Wars. The judge and the three adult Hennessey United Leadership team members were surprised that the majority of the students had never seen the Star Wars movie. Seniors were greeted in the courthouse lobby by Hennessey’s Dist. 2 County Commissioner Ray Alan Shimanek and Sheriff Dennis Banther, who told about their jobs. Once in the courtroom, Court Clerk Lisa Markus also explained her office’s operations. Courtroom etiquette was explained to students by Courthouse Deputy Desmond Barnett, Banther, and then again by the judge. There was also a sign on the courtroom entrance, but one of the student actors missed the part about not chewing gum. Barnett quietly took care of the student’s error in the courtroom by offering him a tissue so he could spit it out. After the courthouse visit students were treated to a late breakfast at McDonald’s where caramel coffee drinks were a hit with many students. The leadership class is each Wednesday morning during Brady Page’s civics class and is conducted by the Hennessey United Association.
