Hill resigns as AD, 2 teachers hired at Hennessey

By
Barb Walter

Hennessey School Superintendent Mike Woods told the board Monday night that he’d accepted Nathan Hill’s resignation.

Hill served as athletic director for the past few years and was first hired as the defensive football coach in 2007.

Hill and Head Football Coach Rick Luetjen were both rehired March 11 as teachers for this fall, but later in that meeting the board tabled all extra duty assignments.

After that meeting, both Hill and Luetjen were told that they would not be rehired as coaches.

Paul Hix, offensive coordinator at Midwest City for the past two years, was hired as Hennessey’s head football coach and AD in a special board meeting March 27. Hix took over his new jobs that day and met with students.

The new coach’s salary information was not available Monday night.

All members of the board were present: President Patrick Griffin, Vice President Dr. James Matousek, Clerk Luke Lough, Joe Garrison and Cristopher Choate.

No Coaching Assignments

Made

The board skipped making extra-duty coaching assignments again at this week’s meeting. That action came after a 27 minute executive session to discuss personnel matters.

Two Teachers Hired

Other action after the closed meeting included hiring Heather Russell as a first grade teacher, and Maribeth Boettler as a second grade teacher for the 2019-20 year. Both are for temporary contracts.

Boettler is a long-time Hennessey elementary school teacher who retired and has come back the last few years to teach again.

Russell lives in Hennessey and is scheduled to graduate in May from Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Alva, with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. She also attended Butler Community College, Pratt, Kan.; Pratt Community College, Pratt, and graduated from Chaparral High School, Anthony, Kan., in 2013.

Other Hirings

Other certified teachers hired for the next school year on temporary contracts were Randi Hladik, Kate Ludwig, Hayley Martin, Chelsey McArthur and Ryan McKee.

The board rehired 56 certified personnel at their March meeting.

These 57 non-certified personnel (secretaries, teacher assistants, bus drivers, janitors, security, cafeteria workers, etc.) were also rehired Monday night for next year: Wilma Adams, Gary Beaman, Lisa Bossa, Erica Brizuela, Todd Cameron, Grace Chavez, Ginger Cox, Bridget Dorry, Paola Escarcega, Luz Escobedo, Maria Fierro, Sherri Fipps, Randi Franklin, Rosa Garcia, Paulita Gonzalez, Donnie Harris, Rebecca Hernandez Montes, Basilia Holguin, Christina Holguin, Rita Huntsberger, Charlotte Jones, Lindsey Jones, Mahala Jones, Victoria Jones, Ofelia Lara de Renteria, Perla Leyva, Melissa Macy, Jessica McNeely, Tara Moery, Adelina Nunez, Carolina Orozco, Ashley Osland, Dale Pazzo, Carrie Rhamy, Courtney Robar, Christine Roberts, Olga Roldan, Tori Roller, Veronica Roman, Patty Shaw, Jose Solis, Emilie Spurrier, Yumira Torres, Herminia Valles, Rosa Velazquez, Sharon Worden and Jennifer Wymore.

Other Action

The board also approved use of old softball uniforms to be auctioned off as a fund-raiser. The item was taken up under new business, but was not listed on the agenda for action.

Superintendent’s Report

Woods’ monthly superintendent’s report was shorter than usual because members were anxious to get out in time to watch the NCAA national championship game.

Woods did say that work would start on bricking The Dome soon and they were doing some framing.

New security doors would be installed soon at the lower elementary school and at the old shop. He said they’d include bullet-proof glass.

Woods said they were also continuing their assessment of programs offered and told board members about a Senate bill that he felt would adversely affect the school.

The meeting adjourned at 7:42 p.m.
