Hennessey Board of Education members routinely voted to make application to the Kingfisher County Excise Board for $9.12 million in temporary appropriations to start the 2020-21 fiscal year.

That list includes $8 million for the general fund; $500,000 for the building fund; $600,000 for the child nutrition fund, and $20,000 for the cooperative fund.

Those amounts are only a percentage of the planned budget for the new fiscal year.

The school’s 2018-19 budget totaled $12.382 million.

The board approved the temporary appropriation request at their June 10 regular monthly meeting.

Board members present were President Patrick Griffin, Vice President Dr. James M. Matousek, Cristopher Choate and Joe Garrison. Absent was Luke Lough.

Board members spent part of their meeting looking over carpet, flooring and paint colors that will go into The Dome, said Superintendent Dr. Mike Woods after the meeting.

He said construction on the second tier of the facility will start soon.

Bus Purchase

The board voted to purchase a 2020 Bluebird 71 passenger, air-conditioned school bus from Ross Transportation for $79,000. It tabled purchase of an activity bus.

Adidas Products

Board members approved a one-year agreement with Adidas products to supply shoes, clothing, etc. for coaches.

Personnel

After a 40-minute executive session, the board:

• Hired HHS 1989 grad Don Edmondson as the middle school STREAM teacher on a temporary contract. He is not certified as a teacher, but hired on an emergency certification. He will also coach girls basketball. Edmondson lives in Fairmont and is currently the transportation manger for PT Coupling World Headquarters in Enid. He was manager of Evans Pharmacy, Enid, 2014-17, and a respiratory therapist, 2012-14. He coached three years at NWOSU.

• Hired Mike Driskill as a summer custodian, plus repairs and maintenance; Ashton Rapp as summer help, and Paulita Gonzalez and Luz Escobedo, extra duty stipend of $150 for assistant to head custodian duties during June.

• Approved principal contracts with Angela Avila, Stacey Schovanec and Barry Crosswhite. All three had been rehired in earlier meetings.

Other Business

The board routinely approved memberships in school-related organizations, photographic services (Oklahoma School Pictures) and legal services (Walta & Walta).
