HPS to start on schedule, but exact details still in works
‘RETURN TO LEARN’
Other school websites show an overview of what to expect in the way of requirements for starting school during this pandemic, said fifth grade teacher Kathi Reilly at the Hennessey Board of Education Monday night meeting.
“People keep asking me,” she said, “and I don’t know.”
“Our biggest challenge is that we’re still working through all the requirements,” said Superintendent Dr. Mike Woods.
“We have problems putting it in writing,” said HS/ MS Principal Angela Avila from the audience. “It’s very fluid.”
“We have to look at virtual and in-classroom classes,” said Woods. “Then there is ‘blended,’ which is a mix of virtual and in-classroom…And students who are only in virtual classes can’t participate in extracurricular activities.”
Students in all virtual classes will have a different curriculum compared to inclass students, he said.
Questions
Woods said anyone who has questions that aren’t answered on the school website should email him at mwoods@hps.k12.ok.us.
Masks/Social Distancing
The school asks all students to wear a mask when in hallways or any public area and to practice social distancing.
No bus pickups for in town students but …
After the meeting, Woods said students who live inside the town limits (from State Highway 51 south to 7th Street and Cemetery Road west to Mitchell Road) will not be picked up by school buses due to social distancing limitations.
If that causes a hardship, or if your out-of-town child plans to ride the bus, or you plan to take your child to school, call the administration office (405-853-1320).
Families are to ride the bus together and will have assigned seats, he said.
Online enrollment
Woods said parents should enroll students online through the Hennessey Public Schools website and will need an email address.
If questions, call 405-853-1320 or email Renee Curry (recurry@hps.k12.ok.us).
Supply lists Pre-K-5
Lists are online at Hennessey Public Schools (hps.k12.ok.us).
Fever scans
The school purchased devices that will scan for temperatures. They will be at the entrances of every building and will be used at The Dome during games or other activities.
Those with temperatures will not be allowed to go into classrooms or games/events.
More information will be on the school’s website when it becomes available.
