HPS Sup’t in hospital
Dr. Michael Woods, Hennessey Public School superintendent, remained hospitalized Tuesday after apparently losing consciousness behind the wheel of his pickup truck and crashing into a storage container about 4:30 p.m. Monday north of Hennessey.
Woods, 50, was transported by Life EMS to St. Mary’s Hospital in Enid, where he was admitted in stable condition with head and internal trunk injuries, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol news release.
Trooper Kevin Edsall, investigating officer, told the Times & Free Press Tuesday that Woods was undergoing medical tests to determine what caused his apparent blackout while driving south on U.S. 81 about 1.3 miles north of Hennessey.
According to OHP, Woods’ pickup truck departed the roadway to the right and then struck a storage container in front of a residence..
Shelby Zelnicek, who lives in the house, posted on Facebook Monday night that she was actually driving in front of Woods’ pickup truck and pulling into her driveway when he lost control of the vehicle.
Zelnicek, who did not identify Woods in the post, wrote that the pickup truck ran into some empty fuel tanks before striking the storage container.
Zelnicek’s vehicle was not involved in the collision.
Hennessey School Board President Patrick Griffin informed the rest of the board about the accident at the monthly board meeting Monday night and asked for prayers for Woods.
Woods’ wife Cindy called a school staff member about 7:05 p.m. Monday night to report that Woods was OK but undergoing tests.
