HPS superintendent resignation accepted, board begins its search for a replacement

After an hour in closed session Wednesday night, the Hennessey Board of Education voted unanimously to accept the resignation of Dr. Mike Woods that he’d submitted at a Jan. 11 meeting.

Woods has held that position for five years and told The Times & Free Press he was not at the meeting.

During an earlier meeting, Woods offered to stay on part-time after June 30, but there was no agenda item that dealt with that and Dr. James Matousek, board president, said it is “still under consideration,” during a phone interview Thursday morning.

The board voted to start accepting superintendent applications the next day (Jan. 21) and close Feb. 18 with resumes sent to the Hennessey Public Schools, 605 E. Oklahoma Ave., Hennessey, OK 73742 and via email at superintendentsearch@gmail.com.

They also voted to post the position on the OSSBA website.

All board members attended the meeting and all votes were unanimous: Vice President Joe Garrison, Clerk Cristopher Choate, Luke Lough, Patrick Griffin and Matousek.

Also present as a guest was David Tillman, newly-elected board member who will take office this spring.

This was Garrison’s first in-person meeting in a few months due to illness.

The meeting was held in the conference room at the Eagle Event Center instead of the usual Auditorium Seminar Room meeting place.
