It’s a Jungle Out There

Assembly, parade precede game in KHS safari-themed homecoming week

Kingfisher High School has kicked its annual homecoming celebration into high gear this week, courtesy the student council’s diligent planning around the safari theme of “The Jackets Win Tonight.”

Homecoming royalty candidates as well as royalty for basketball, wrestling, organizations and classes will be introduced at an assembly at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the APB.

The parade will begin at 4 p.m. Friday at Walter Building Center and go south down Main Street and will include football teams, the Pride of Kingfisher marching band, KHS royalty, kids on bicycles and four-wheelers and entries from other local clubs and organizations.

Anyone interested in joining the parade lineup is asked to email student council sponsor Amy Pearson at apearson@kingfisher.k12.ok.us by Wednesday afternoon.

The pre-game ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the stadium. The queens and kings of each class will be presented and football royalty will be crowned on the football field.

At 7 p.m., the Jackets will take on the Bridge Creek Tigers.

A limited number of homecoming shirts also will be available for purchase at the game.

The football homecoming queen candidates include Anna Gallupe, Irelyn Schemmer and Emma Waltman. The football captains include Wes Hine, Riley Myers and Matthew Palmer.

Junior attendants are Maitlyn Tollefson, the daughter of Matt and Makylah Tollefson, and Bryson Black, the son of Greg and Niki Black.

Palmer is the son of Jeffrey and Kristyl Palmer and is a member of National Honor Society and Mercy Student Careers Council and attends Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where he is active in youth group.

He has been a student of the month, an Oklahoma Boys State delegate and Junior Lion for October and participant in the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Interscholastic Meet.

Myers is the son of Jeff and Candyce Myers and was named to the All Northwest Oklahoma team and Vype Top 100.

He is a member of NHS.

Hine is the son of Laura and Randy Hine and also competes in wrestling and track and field. He is a member of the National Technical Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Waltman is the daughter of Darren and Melanie Waltman and is involved in photography, placing second in photojournalism in a recent photo contest. She also participates in drama and soccer and is a member of NHS.

Gallupe is the daughter of Grant and Connie Gallupe and has been named a student of the month and digital technology’s outstanding first year student at Chisholm Trail Technology Center.

She is a member of student council and Business Professionals of America and is a second year digital tech student, fourth year speech, drama and debate student and a dance student at Curtain Time Dance Studio.

Schemmer is the daughter of Ed and Amber Schemmer and is a member of NHS, NTHS and the principal’s honor roll.

She also participates in Health Occupations Students of America, is a fourth year speech, drama and debate student, a member of student council, health career certifications, student career council and Curtain Time dance student.
