Unemployment remained low in Kingfisher County and most of western Oklahoma in May, the last reporting date of the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission.

The county rate was below the seasonally adjusted rate for the state, 3.2 percent, which was below the national rate, 3.6 percent.

The state’s seasonally adjusted rate was down 0.3 percentage point compared to May 2018. Area county’s employment rates for May 2019, April 2019 and May 2018 follow in that order: Kingfisher – 2.0, 1.6 and 2.1. Blaine – 1.8, 1.8 and 2.1. Logan – 2.8, 2.4 and 3.1. Garfield – 2.9, 2.6 and 3.1 Canadian – 2.7, 2.4 and 2.8. Latimer County showed the highest unemployment rates for those designated periods: 5.2 percent in May 2019, 4.6 percent for April 2019 and 5.8 percent for May 2018. Alfalfa County tied with Blaine County at 1.8 percent in May for the lowest unemployment rate.
