John Gooden to receive KOB’s Lifetime Achievement Award
John Gooden will be among the guests of honor at next month’s 35th annual Environmental Excellence Celebration.
Gooden will be presented the Lifetime Achievement Award at the ceremony, which is presented by Keep Oklahoma Beautiful.
The awards ceremony is 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.
Keep Oklahoma Beautiful promotes trash cleanup, tree planting, clean water, environmental education, community renewal and various innovative efforts to help improve the environment and communities.
The brochure for the ceremony reads: “Join Keep Oklahoma Beautiful as we honor individuals and organizations who go above and beyond to protect and enhance Oklahoma’s natural beauty.”
Gooden is the chairman of Kingfi sher Trails, which has spent more than two decades developing a system of trails in Kingfisher, an effort that continues today.
He’s also currently volunteering his efforts for the creation of the Harry’s Hole Nature Preserve and clean-up (just east of the former United Supermarket), which will make for the expansion of the runway at Kingfisher airport.
The new concrete and downtown streetscape were projects spearheaded by Gooden as well.
Gooden played a large role in the Visitor Center at the intersection of U.S. Highway 81 and State Highway 33 that houses the Kingfisher Chamber of Commerce.
He created the Jesse Chisholm sculpture and the map of the Chisholm Trail as part of the Oklahoma Centennial celebration.
Even prior to starting Kingfisher Trails, Gooden’s footprint (or handiwork) could be found as he created the “Kingfisher Gateway” sign at the south entrance to the city.
Others being honored along with Gooden are: Virgil Turner, Gail Ederer Champion Volunteer Award; Michele Loudenback, Towering Spirit Award; Ellen Bussert, Environmental Advocate Award; Sen. Dave Rader, Vanguard Award; Drew Edmondson, Visionary Leadership Award.
