July 4 events still planned
Kingfisher and Hennessey are going ahead with traditional July 4 celebrations this year, with some modifications, officials said.
Kingfisher Chamber of Commerce and the city of Kingfisher are hosting 2020 Freedom Fest, which will include a parade, park games, races and food and an evening concert and fireworks at Kingfisher Park.
The day starts at 10 a.m. with a parade at Briscoe Sports Complex. The location has been moved due to downtown road construcition work, but Chamber Manager Shauna Rupp said the park also will allow for sufficient social distancing.
At 5 p.m., the turtle race and other games hosted by local civic groups will begin at Kingfisher Park, followed by a 7 p.m. concert inside Homier Field and fireworks at dusk, supplied by the city of Kingfisher. Watch for more details in Sunday’s paper.
Hennessey’s Lions Club will continue to be in charge of Fourth of July plans in Hennessey, and the Town of Hennessey will again supply the annual fireworks show.
The town will also offer free admission to the new pool that day from noon-6 p.m. and reopen at 7 p.m., said Tiffany Tillman, town administrator. Pool games are also planned.
All events will be held at the aquatic pool center and park on Mitchell Road across from the schools.
