KEWA plans event to recruit members
The Kingfisher Elks Women’s Auxiliary (KEWA) held its monthly meeting Tuesday, March
The meeting opened with President Kathy Mueggenborg leading the flag salute.
The minutes were read by Judey Cates, secretary, and were approved by Janet Kale and Bonnie Bamberg.
Bamberg, treasurer, provided the financial report which was approved by Cates and Kale.
Mueggenborg read a letter from the Kingfisher Food Bank thanking it for the Christmas donation. The letter mentioned the food bank, one KEWA has supported for many years, gave out 625 baskets last year.
Heather Jones, volunteer coordinator for the Fourth Judicial District of the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program, asked the group for a donation.
Jones is leading a project to build and place wooden figures of children on the county courthouse lawn to bring awareness to child abuse prevention.
The club voted to donate $200 to furnish plywood for the 3-feet by 2-feet structures.
There will be one figure with the KEWA name that members will decorate.
The American Legion sent a letter to the Kingfisher Elks asking for a contribution to supply flags for the cemetery for veterans’
KEWA voted to also contribute and will supply 144 flags ata cost of about $200.
The group will serve chicken spaghetti, salad and rolls for its April KEWA dinner at the Elks Lodge. Bamberg and Lee Meyers will make the salad. Desserts will be made by Mueggenborg, Kale and Cates.
The group decided to have its April 14 meeting as a get-together to recruit new members.
“Many members have helped with special projects, but we need day-to-day help,” Cates said. “If you are a female Elk, female spouse of an Elk, please join us to see what we have done for the lodge and hope to do in the future.”
There will be snacks and the group will pay for the first drink.
