KHS names October Students of the Month
Kingfisher High School has named its Students of the Month for October 2019.
Students are chosen based on many characteristics including responsibility, leadership, work ethic, reliability, kindness and other criteria.
Selected by the teachers were freshman Drake Friesen, sophomore Slade Snodgrass, junior Prairie Kaya and senior Elizabeth Perdue.
Friesen is the son of Brandon Friesen and Leah Friesen.
He is on the superintendent’s honor roll and in the Oklahoma Honor Society. He is an active member of student council and also on the KHS baseball and basketball teams.
Snodgrass is the son of Mark and Angie Snodgrass.
He is on the superintendent’s honor roll and in the Oklahoma Honor Society.
He was also chosen as Student of the Month as a freshman.
Snodgrass is active in football, baseball, National Honor Society, student council and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Kaya is the daughter of Kurt Kaya and Shel Wagner.
She is in both the Oklahoma Honor Society and National Honor Society and is listed on the superintendent’s honor roll.
She is the recipient of the Lantern Pin Academic Award and, as a sophomore, she received the “Next Maya Angelou” award.
Kaya currently serves as the junior class vice president and she is a member of the Pride of Kingfi sher band, KHS Drama Club, the Dead Poets Society and the Kingfi sher GSA.
She has also participated in the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership and is an Oklahoma Arts Institute Summer Fellow.
Perdue is the daughter of Jim and Debra Perdue.
She is in both the Oklahoma Honor Society and National Honor Society and she has received the 4.0 Academic Award.
Perdue is a six-time state FFA champion, a two-time national FFA champion and was most recently a National FFA semifi nalist.
She was named the Kingfisher County Distinguished Young Woman of 2020.
Perdue is active in 4-H, FFA, cheerleading, slowpitch softball, the Center of Family Love Student Governing Board and Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
