Kingfisher County Extension hosts donut making workshop

By

Kingfisher County Extension hosted a workshop Sept. 10 on making homemade donuts.

The class was held at the Extension Office and was instructed by Lindy Hoel, FCS educator.

Hoel also provided materials for the workshop.

Hoel discussed the two types of donuts and the different variations of fried and baked donuts.

She described to the participants how they can reduce a recipe, reduce the rise time for fried donuts, and how to use different substitutes for ingredients they may not have.

Hoel had the participants read through the two recipes created at the workshop to help the them understand how they were going to make the donuts.

The participants were broken into groups with one group making fried donuts, one group making baked donuts, and the last group making baked donuts with an egg substitute.

There were seven participants at the workshop.

“Each participant had a lot of fun learning the different terms associated with making donuts and trying the different types of donuts,” Hoel said.

This workshop was part of the Monthly Cooking Workshop Series.

The workshop for next month will teach the participants how to make their favorite desserts healthier to appeal to diabetic, gluten free, and other allergy patrons.
