Kingfisher County Extension hosts healthy cooking workshop

By

Kingfisher County hosted a Healthy Alternative Cooking workshop for the members of the community on March 12. Lindy Hoel, the Family and Consumer Science educator, was the instructor and provider of the supplies and materials.

Hoel taught the group of five participants about food and kitchen safety. She discussed the current fad of using vegetables and more whole grains for food items such as bread, pastas, and tortillas.

She also demonstrated and guided participants on how to make sweet potato tortillas.

Each participant took home the tortillas they created and dined on tacos using the tortillas.

Each participant also took home a completed and baked two-crust fruit pie.

More cooking classes are scheduled the second Tuesday of each month beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The next workshop is called “Waffle it!” where participants will learn how to use their waffle irons for more than just waffles.

Each workshop is $5 to cover the costs of materials and is open to the public.

For more information about these cooking classes and other events, contact Hoel, at 405-375-3822.
