Kingfisher driver injured in local 3-vehicle collision
A Kingfisher man was transported by helicopter to an Oklahoma City hospital last Tuesday and admitted in critical condition after a three-vehicle accident two miles south of Kingfisher.
Keith Gray, 24, was pinned inside his 2009 Ford Mustang for more than 40 minutes before being freed by the Okarche and Kingfisher fire departments using a hydraulic rescue tool, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.
The drivers of the other two vehicles were not reported injured.
Gray’s vehicle was traveling south on U.S. 81 in the inside lane shortly after 5 a.m. Tuesday when he collided with an International truck driven by Rickey Johnson, 54, of Loyal, which was traveling at 10-15 miles per hour and spraying the center median, according to the OHP report.
The truck veered to the right and came to rest in the west ditch. David Gallo, 59, of Dover, a passenger in the truck, was not reported injured.
Jordan Rutherford, 38, of Kingfisher, also was traveling south in a 2003 Dodge pickup truck and veered to the right in an effort to avoid the accident and collided with the Mustang, according to the report.
Gray sustained head and internal injuries and remained hospitalized as of press time Friday. The occupants of the other two vehicles were wearing seatbelts but Gray was not, according to the report.
The accident was investigated by OHP Trooper Jeff Jech of the Kingfisher County detachment, assisted by the Kingfisher County Sheriff’s Office, Kingfi sher Police Department, Kingfisher and Okarche fire departments and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.
