Kingfisher fiber build-out starts Monday
Pioneer Telephone Cooperative begins construction of an estimated $3 million fiber-to-the-home build-out in Kingfisher Monday, expected to be completed in July.
The construction will be completed by contractors partnering with Pioneer to meet the aggressive project timeline.
“Pioneer is future-proofing the needs of our customers by overbuilding the existing copper facilities with high-speed fiber-optics,” General Manager Richard Ruhl said.
“Fiber will allow customers to have full access to things like broadband speeds up to 1Gig, multiple iVideo streams, high-definition, Cloud DVR, live-streaming, security cameras and home automation.
Pioneer offers fiber-optic high-speed Internet to both residential and business customers for the same price and the same speeds, while enhancing the users experience with symmetrical download and upload speeds.
With everyday objects from security cameras, to doorbells relying on the internet for remote operation (a concept known as IoT or “Internet of Things”), upload speeds can be just as important as download speeds, Ruhl said.
Fiber installation has already been completed in the outlying areas surrounding Kingfisher proper (see the map at right), funded by the Federal Communications Commission’s Alternative Connect America Model (A-CAM) funding.
