Kingfisher seniors, cousins serve as House pages
Peyton Burns chosen by peers to serve as governor in mock program
Kingfisher High School seniors Emily Garrett and Peyton Burns served as House Pages for Majority Leader Mike Sanders.
Garrett is the daughter of Greg and Sarah Garrett.
“Serving as a page would present me with an opportunity to further my knowledge of our state’s legislature’s proceedings,” she said in her application for the page program.
Burns is the son of Ryan and Lori Burns.
“I would like to serve as a page to get an amazing experience from working in the legislature that will give me a great experience for a future career inside the government in public service,” he said in his application.
Burns was chosen by his peers to be governor in the page program’s Mock Legislature.
Burns and Garrett are cousins.
House pages run messages to legislators while they are in the chamber debating policy and voting on measures. Pages also participate in a mock session, in which they learn legislative procedure and how to write legislation.
“These two were fantastic pages,” said Sanders, R-Kingfisher. “They worked hard, they asked great questions, they fully participated in the process. I know they have bright futures ahead of them. And a special congratulations to Peyton for being elected to the top spot by his peers.”
