Kingfisher seniors Gerken, Perdue page for Sanders

By

Victoria Gerken and Elizabeth Perdue, both seniors at Kingfisher High School, paged for House Majority Leader Mike Sanders the week of Feb.10-13 at the state Capitol.

Gerken is the daughter of David and Cara Gerken. She said her plans after high school are to attend Oklahoma State University to major in biochemistry with a minor in Spanish and sign language with the goal of becoming a pediatric anesthesiologist.

Her community service projects include the Kingfisher FFA blood drive, Kingfisher Winter Nights, Food for America and STUCO Days of Service.

Extra-curricular activities and hobbies include showing cattle and pigs through FFA, playing golf and serving on the Mercy Student Governing Board.

Gerken’s personal achievements include being a member of the FFA national championship livestock judging team and the national FFA conduct of chapter meetings champion team.

Her life goal, she said, is to be a doctor while remaining heavily involved in agriculture.

Perdue is the daughter of Jim and Debra Perdue.

Her plans after high school are to attend Oklahoma State University to major in agribusiness and agricultural communications with a pre-law option. She said she hopes to attend law school in the future.

Perdue’s community service projects include 4-H Big Clover-Little Clover, Kingfisher FFA blood drive and Food for America.

Her extra-curricular activities and hobbies include showing pigs for FFA, 4-H, cheerleading and the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church youth group. She also likes spending time with her family and friends.

Her personal achievements include being named a KHS Student of the Month as a senior, being a member of the National and Oklahoma honor societies and being named a Kingfisher County Distinguished Young Woman of 2020.

Her life goal is to pursue a career in agriculture law to give back to the great industry that has inspired her to be the best she can be, she said.

“Victoria and Elizabeth are bright young women – very sharp and insightful,” Sanders said. “It was a pleasure to welcome them to the state Capitol this week and give them a glimpse of government in action. I believe both of them will achieve great things in their future pursuits.”

House pages run messages to legislators while they are in the chamber debating policy and voting on measures. Pages also participate in a mock session, in which they learn legislative procedure and how to write legislation.

Perdue was elected by her fellow pages as the Speaker of Pageville, the mock legislative session, an added honor.
