Kingfisher Study Club holds first meeting of 2019-20 year
Kingfisher Study Club met Oct. 2 for brunch in First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall to begin the 2019-20 club year.
President and co-hostess Melda Fischer welcomed 12 members and guest, Dana Golbek. Hostess Dawn Ann Mendenhall led the group in prayer before serving brunch.
Fischer had placed colorful fall centerpieces on the tables. Sherry Blair and Dana Golbek had their names drawn for the centerpieces at the close of the meeting.
Minutes of the May 1 meeting were read and approved.
Roll call was answered by sharing their favorite season of the year.
Treasurer Donna Lann reported a $481.66 balance, handed out the 2018-2019 financial statement and reminded members current dues needed are $30 plus a $5 minimum library donation.
Discussion was held regarding the Kingfisher High School Senior Tea expenses.
Connie Boeckman expressed appreciation to the Yearbook Committee.
In new business, Mendenhall made a motion to purchase $25 food gift certificates for each person giving the program and Terri Peck seconded before the motion passed.
Discussion was held about having a travel fun day on a day different than meetings. Donna Lann made a motion to appoint a Social Committee to plan that and Boeckman seconded as the motion passed.
Fischer presented the yearbook and shared the poem “Advice from a Tree,” which stated: Stand tall and proud, Sink your roots into the Earth, Be content with your natural beauty, Go out on a limb, Drink plenty of water, Think long term, Enjoy the view!
The theme for this year is “A New Season of LIFE” with programs focusing on fitness, health and safety.
Peck made a motion to accept Golbek as a new member. Gerry Plummer seconded and the motion passed.
Membership was discussed with Nancy Cravens making a motion to have names submitted and voted on at the following meeting. Clairetta Lowe seconded and the motion passed.
The meeting closed with members reciting the Club Women’s Collect.
The next meeting will be Nov. 6 with Lann serving as hostess.
