Kingfisher track repairs to start Monday

By

Repairs to the track at the Kingfisher Public Schools walking complex is expected to keep it out of commission for the rest of this month.

Kingfisher Superintendent Jason Sternberger told school board members at their meeting on Monday that the repairs are expected to begin Monday, Oct. 12.

“All told, it should take about three weeks for it to be completed assuming we have good weather,” Sternberger said.

The project will be completed by McConnell & Associates, which has locations in Kansas and Missouri.

The track was installed in 2007 by ATG Sports, which sold the maintenance and repair part of its business to McConnell & Associates.

This is the first major repair project on the track since installation.

The resurfacing portion will take about two weeks.

It includes:

• Patching the existing track surface as needed;

• Sealing the edge of the surface between the rubber and the concrete curb;

• Applying a sealer layer over entire track surface, and,

• Applying a 5 mm impermeable polyurethane flood and chip layer with red EPDM rubber.

Crews will then stripe the track. That, plus allowing drying time, will take about another week.
