The Kingfisher Police Department has investigated or responded to the following traffic incidents:

March 26, 2:32 p.m. — Main and Will Rogers. Involved were John A. Mitchell, 84, of Dover, driving a 2019 GMC Sierra; John Tyler Garcia, 31, of Blanchard, driving a 2018 Ford F55. According to the report from Officer Richard Staton, both vehicles were northbound on Main, in the construction zone, with Garcia in the inside lane and Mitchell in an unmarked area in the inside lane beside him. When the signal light changed (green), both vehicles started traveling north toward the (proper) inside lane. Garcia’s rear driver-side truck box struck Mitchell’s passenger side fender. Garcia continued north, scraping down the passenger side of Mitchell’s vehicle.

March 28, 1:30 p.m. — Oklahoma Park. Involved was Randy Mecklenburg, 67, of Kingfisher, driving a 1998 Dodge Ram. According to the report from Capt. David Catron, Mecklenburg was traveling across the parking lot at the Vernie Snow Aquatic Center and failed to see a light pole, which he struck.

March 29, 3:45 p.m. — Main and Douglas. Involved were Nicholas Robert Scheaffer, 21, of Dover, driving a 2017 Chevrolet Cruz; and Bethie Sheaffer, McClendon, 64, of Silsbee, Texas, driving a 2016 Toyota Rav. According to the report from Officer Charles Trout, both vehicles were traveling south in the inside lane of Main (US-81). Silsbee slowed to allow a vehicle in front of him to turn left. As he slowed, Scheaffer collided from the rear. Scheaffer stated that he was looking at the convenience store at the time and did not notice that the other vehicle was slowing until it was too late.

April 1, 8:07 p.m. — Main and Starlite (construction zone). Involved were Taylor Dawn Haynes, 19, of Kingfisher, driving a 2008 Chrysler; and Eddie Duran Ortiz, 38, of Kingfisher, driving a 2018 Mack. According to the report from Officer Aaron Schlegel, Ortiz was stopped at the red traffic signal at Main and Starlite, facing north. Haynes was just behind him and ran into the back of Ortiz’s trailer, causing minor damage to the front of the Haynes’ vehicle. Haynes stated that she had come to a stop but that while her foot was on the brake pedal, the brakes quit working, causing her to drive into the back of the truck. She stated she had her brake pads changed earlier in the day and had no problems up until this collision.

April 5, 4:35 p.m. — Main and Overstreet. Involved were Lori Mayes, 55, of Kingfisher, driving a 2008 Chrysler; and Rosa Maria Ortega, 59, of Hennessey, driving a 2011 Chevrolet Cruz. According to the report from Officer Charles Trout, Mayes was negotiating a left-hand turn going eastbound into the parking lot of Sonic Drive-in. Mayes said that two vehicles had stopped in the number one lane to allow her to turn left. She continued to turn, as the Ortega vehicle approached the area, and the two collided as Mayes entered the drive. Both vehicles had been moved prior to the officer’s arrival.
