KMS cheer wins Game Day state championship
Kingfisher Middle School announced their arrival last week as they won the Junior High Game Day State Championship at Newcastle High School. KMS took third last year in the first-ever Oklahoma Junior High State. “As a coach, for both middle school and high school, I see the value in placing strong emphasis in the middle school so that competition comes natural to them at the point of high school OSSAA state,” said Tiffanie Barnett. “Although cheering on the sidelines and getting the crowd involved is our main goal for school cheer, competition allows the girls to use their talents and compete within their sport of cheer.” The team took home the banner, a championship trophy and each girl received a state championship ring. Tamara Massey asked her daughter, Anna, one of the team members, what was going through her mind while competing. “I just kept my eye on Coach Tiffanie,” Anna said. “She had a huge smile on her face, so I knew we were doing good.” Team members include, from left: front row, Courtney Butts, Libbie Barnett, Ashley Casillas, Taylor Mills, Gretchen Garrett, Alli-Kate Themer, Cameron McDonald, Yamile Saucedo, Harlie Schlegal, Anna Massey, Charlie Barker; and back row, Makenna Willson, Katy Diedrich, Kylee Rojas, Gentry Taylor, Hope Stafford, Amy Deatherage, Peyton Townsend, Avery Davis, Jaelin Cortes, Alison Womack and Syra Littlehawk. The team is coached by Barnett. Chrissy Wensman is the KMS cheer sponsor. [Photo provided]
