KPS accepts three resignations

Three teachers and a longtime secretary tendered resignations during last Monday’s Kingfisher Board of Education meeting.

Board members also were able to fill a trio of vacant positions at the April regular meeting.

Resigning were: Whitney Johnson, who taught English and ACT prep and was also the yearbook advisor; Rachael Spears, assistant band and elementary music teacher; Gerrett Spears, economics teacher; and Schrie Braden, middle school principal’s secretary.

Braden has worked for Kingfisher Public Schools for 23 years and is retiring.

She started as a counselor’s secretary before working with the principal.

Braden has also worked for the STARS program for 11 years.

“I would like to express my gratitude for the opportunity to work for Kingfisher Public Schools,” she said. “I have met so many wonderful people through the school.”

Braden has had three daughters graduate from KPS before attending college and starting their own careers.

“Kingfisher Schools has truly made a difference in our lives,” she said.

Gerrett Spears had resigned his girls basketball coaching duties during a March special meeting.

He’s been hired as the junior high and high school principal at Burlington.

Rachael Spears was also hired by Burlington to teach music and technology classes.

Hired by the board after an executive session were Kayla Voth, Bryan Dutton and Morgan Marks.

Dutton is succeeding Ed Evey as the high school wrestling coach and Marks will teach high school science and be an assistant high school softball coach (See our Wednesday, April 7, edition for more on them).

Voth fills the district’s full-time speech pathologist/dyslexia position.

She was recommended by special education director Kristina Burnham.

In other action, the board approved:

• A contract with ADPC for financial accounting software and support at an annual cost of $5,820;

• A contract with Moore Therapy Services Inc., for occupational therapy services

• A trip to Nashville, Tenn., in May 2022 for the Kingfisher High School choir students.
