KPS adds to staff during Monday meeting
The Kingfisher Board of Education filled in some employment gaps during last Monday’s regular August meeting.
Without going into executive session, the board approved hiring Amanda Fariss as an information technology assistant; Shane Soudek as a teacher’s assistant as well as an assistant coach for junior high boys basketball and high school boys soccer; Aniessa Edsall as an assistant coach for softball and high school girls soccer; and Giorgina Enriquez as a custodian.
The board, during its meeting at the end of June, urged Superintendent Jason Sternberger to look at adding to the IT staff, which prompted that move.
Edsall was previously hired to teach special education math at the middle school, but extra-duty assignments hadn’t been approved yet.
Soudek, a KHS graduate, will work with students who are attending school virtually, according to Sternberger.
There was an agenda item to hire a kindergarten teacher, but the interview process hadn’t been completed.
Later in the week, Sternberger announced Whitney Hauser had been hired for that position.
That is expected to be approved at the next board meeting.
The kindergarten position came up when Desirae Havens tendered her resignation.
“I am resigning due to being immunocompromised and the COVID-19 situation,” Havens said in her letter to Gilmour Principal Clifford Benson.
“I really enjoyed teaching my students at Gilmour Elementary. I will forever cherish the time I was able to spend with my students and colleagues.”
Teacher assistant Becky Gibson also resigned.
“It has been a pleasure to work for the school for the last eight years,” she said. “I will truly miss getting to help the pre-k students learn. I have gotten so much enjoyment from my position at Gilmour.”
Also approved was a resolution to transcript computer, math and science classes taught at Chisholm Trail Technology Center.
Sternberger said it helps with scheduling issues for students who attend CTTC.
Math and science classes taught at CTTC that can count as KHS credits include Algebra II, geometry, anatomy, trigonometry, pre-calculus, physiology, calculus, AP calculus and personal finance.
The board also approved routine annual contracts with Big Five for a building lease and local education agency child find agreements and CareerTech for secondary programs.
It also approved an out-of-state trip for FFA students to Lubbock, Texas, Aug. 8-10.
Present were board members Mike Copeland, Carly Franks, Dana Golbek and Jim Perdue. Charles Walker was out of town and unable to attend the meeting.
