KPS board to consider graduation plans, hire personnel at May meet

By

Kingfisher Board of Education is expected Monday to approve final graduation plans along with other end-of-year activities that have been affected by the early school closure.

The moves will be made as part of a busy agenda when the board holds its regular May meeting at 7 p.m.

The meeting will begin at the Administration Office, but will then move to the high school cafeteria.

Kingfisher’s administration sent a letter to parents of seniors last week noting three possible dates for a traditional graduation ceremony to be held at the football field: May 16, May 17 and June 6. Those dates are contingent on the state continuing to move forward with its phases of opening up the state in light of COVID-19 as well as favorable weather conditions.

On top of approving those plans, board members will also vote on rehiring certified and non-certified personnel for next school year.

That includes 100 certified employees, five retired teachers on temporary contracts, 10 administrative assistants, 32 aides, five bus drivers, six cafeteria workers, 11 maintenance and custodial staff and an IT director.

Eight employees will also be considered for summer employment.

There’s also an agenda item allowing for the hiring of a new Gilmour Elementary teacher and new maintenance and custodial employees.

Other personnel items include approving Dawn Tollefson, Pam Werner and Amy Woods as custodians of various district accounts.

Bids were recently opened for the first phase of the new mid-high school building to be constructed where the APB parking lot currently resides.

The board is expected to award a contract for that phase at the meeting. The first phase includes demolition of the existing parking lot, utility placement and pad preparation for construction.

Other agenda items call for the board to approve temporary appropriations for the 2020-21 school year and approve contracts with firms for services that include counseling, speech, physical therapy, speech therapy, unemployment, student and bus driver drug testing, and psychology.
